Nita Van Doren

From Heart of Chaos
Jump to: navigation, search

Description

A woman of obvious means, Nita can often be found in the Wolf's Head (as she rents a room in the Alehouse) or the Library, in both cases often with her nose buried in a book. Her accent is a strange mix and though she claims to be 'just a normal scholar' the Van Doren's are a well known 'new money' Merchant family based in the Heartlands.

Whilst she does not go heavily armed when on jobs, she does carry an old but extremely well made crossbow. Her armoured clothing and dagger on the other hand are relatively new, though also of the highest quality.

For the more academically minded, Nita has recently published a paper discussing the importance and interactions between; Language, Culture and History in a society including sections on religion and techniques in learning ancient languages accurately.

Everyone has their reasons for hunting the supernatural; Money, moral obligation, punishment. To one with a little more bravery than their peers there is another motivation. The hunters of the Ardent Vigil contend with many of the great mysteries that pervade the world as part of their service.

A trained researcher with gumption and survival skills could get to lay their hands on forbidden artefacts, buried civilisations, or arcane mysteries long before their library-bound peers have a chance. Fortune favours the bold, and with fortune comes renown in the field.

Rank 1: Pinpoint Focus

You are used to operating when not at your best. Many a student or scholar has been lost in their passion for learning to the point of forgetting to eat or drink.

Rank 2: Sleep is for the Weak

Research is tireless work, and to reach the top, it is often sleepless work.

Rank 3: It’s Surprising What You Can Learn in the Field

Ah, but see, establishing what one doesn't know is also an important step in research!

Rank 4: Peer Review

Between those who have faced death, mighty dragons, or an extended peer review, you’ve learned that, above all odds, the latter is worst.
