St. Ludolf

Following the war of <insert appropriate timescaled war here> there arose tales of a great paladin. Although he wasn't the head paladin (and the tales made it clear why), he stood for the good of humanity, striving to do what was right. His name was Ludolf, and although the tales varied on some details, he was a stocky, imposing figure, never far from arms or armour. In time, this legend of a man was recognised as a saint for his unswerving service, and indomitable spirit.

Ludolf and the monk's labour

In <town name> there had been a lot of looting. The people were tired of war, and scared of it. When Ludolf came to the town, he was tired and weary, and as he rested, the abbot told him of the troubles of the monastery. The monks had kept a fair garden, and each day had cooked their meals and shared it with townsfolk who could attend, until the communal pot was empty. The previous night, the garden of the monastery had been raided, and their crops plundered from the ground. Ludolf became incensed, and swore vengeance upon those that would steal from the servants of the holy.

Despite the abbot's protestations that there was no harm done, Ludolf took his shield and began searching the town. He searched high and low, until he came upon a warehouse housing far more food than might be reasonable in these hard times - down to crop that was nowhere near ready to harvest. Ludolf questioned the workers there, and soon knew that it was time to draw steel.

However, Ludolf was heavily outnumbered, and after dispensing a sound thrashing to the workers, was subdued, beaten, and returned to the monastery alongside several sacks of food. Through blooded jaw and puffy eye, Ludolf smiled. "I think they have learned their lesson".
