St. Sæwine

When Lanzarius travelled the low countries, tales speak that he often visited (or was visited by) a witch. Sometimes old, sometimes young, yet always implied to be the same person. Some of these tales give the witch a name, Sæwine. As the word of the holy truth became more understood to have been truth, the church recognised the prophesies that Lanzarius had recorded from the witch, and elevated her to sainthood in recognition of her guidance.

The aftermath of <xxxxx>

After the battle of <xxxxx> had been won, and his wounds tended, Lanzarius retired from the camp to speak with the follower who had foretold his victory. She was not first upon the field, and picked among the dead seemingly without purpose.

"What is it you seek here, strange woman?", asked The Seeker.

"What does anyone seek after a battle?", replied the woman, "Solace? Understanding? Shoes?"

The air hung empty for a moment too long before she continued, "What did you see here today, he who does not lead wars?"

"It was as you said it would be. Our forces were hard pressed, each of our five battalions with their flags fallen through happenstance. With nothing to rally to, there was confusion. Then Avaline came, wearing the high plume of coloured feathers I gave her last night. The troops saw her, and matched her command. The battalions moved as one, their fist hammering through the enemy and giving us the space we needed to form and roll."

The witch smiled wistfully, "And what did you feel?"

"I .. ", Lanzarius stumbled, the sure words of his heart catching on the doubt in his mind, "I have felt a lot today, haven't I? No one thing can be all I have felt. Is that what I should have said?"

The woman turned from the head of the body at her feet. "Look upon this field now, in the softer light. The crows are fatted, and have gone to roost. When five act as one, they are greater than only five. Yet when they do not, what becomes of the rest?"

And the witch left The Seeker to his thoughts.
